Prostate Cancer ScreeningScreening. Catching prostate cancer at its earliest stages greatly increases chances of survival. That’s why screening is essential. Most men should begin screening at age 50. African-American men, and men with a history of prostate cancer in their relatives are at increased risk and should begin screening at age 40. Because it is possible for a man to have an abnormal result on one or more tests and yet not have prostate cancer, abnormal results will require further diagnostic testing to discover if cancer is present.
