What you can doThe best defense against lung cancer is something you’ve heard many times before: stop smoking. By some estimates, as many as 90 percent of lung cancer diagnoses could be prevented if cigarette smoking were eliminated. For help in breaking the habit, ask your health care provider for the most effective smoking-cessation programs. Other steps you can take include eating a well-balanced diet and eliminating exposure to asbestos and radon gas in your home and, if possible, your workplace
